The Memorial Art Gallery invites you to explore new dialogues between artworks in Making Connections: Highlights from a Decade of Acquisitions. Featured in the Lockhart Gallery from January 24, through July 13, 2025, the exhibition presents works in pairs, drawing connections between different mediums, styles, periods, and regions.

Two works of art next to each other. The left is a grayscale photograph of a nude man's back. The right is an abstract print of a woman reclining.
Left: George Platt Lynes, Walter H. Roehmer, ca. 1944, gelatin silver print. Gift from the Collection of Ninah and Michael Lynne, Courtesy of Sotheby’s, New York, 2021.43 © Estate of George Platt Lynes. Right: Judy Chicago, Earth Birth, 1985, serigraph. Gift of Patricia Braus and Edwin Lopez in honor of Jay and Jane Braus, 2021.73 © 1985 Judy Chicago / Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York

Guests will discover new contexts that artworks provide in support of one another—shared or contrasting qualities in visual strategies, technical approaches, cultural context, and subject matter—and ultimately gain a more diverse understanding of a growing collection.

Coinciding with multiple small installations in the permanent collection galleries, Making Connections reimagines how we connect artworks to inspire new conversations. More information about the exhibition can be found here.
