In an unlikely series of chain reactions where mundane objects roll, tip, and spin hurtling into each other and triggering fires, the art film engages viewers with humor and suspense.
Celebrated Swiss artist duo Peter Fischli (born in 1952) and David Weiss (1946–2012) constructed the film’s cinematic sequences over a two-year period, painstakingly removing any signs of human involvement to create the illusion of spontaneous movement. Fischli and Weiss collaborated for more than thirty-three years, creating influential works spanning sculpture, film, and photography. Through invention, whimsy, and absurdity, the artists blurred the boundaries between “high art” and everyday life, producing works that continue to inspire wonder and curiosity.
Fischli & Weiss: The Way Things Go will be on view in MAG’s Media Arts Watch Gallery from July 25 through October 25, 2026, and is included with general museum admission.
