An impressionist oil painting in shades of blue and green of waterlilies drifting on water.
Claude Monet, Waterlilies, 1908, oil on canvas. Worcester Art Museum, Museum purchase, 1910.26

This fall, the Memorial Art Gallery (MAG) presents a fresh take on a beloved artistic style. Frontiers of Impressionism: Paintings from the Worcester Art Museum explores the evolution of the radical artistic movement that changed the course of art history. Opening on November 2, 2025, and on view through March 1, 2026, the exhibition showcases fifty-two masterworks from the collection of the Worcester Art Museum.

Museum-goers will experience the journey of Impressionism through the lens of more than thirty artists— European and American—including Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro, Mary Cassatt, Childe Hassam, and John Singer Sargent. Frontiers of Impressionism chronicles the emergence of Impressionism in nineteenth-century France, its expansion to much of Europe and the United States, and the lasting changes these progressive artists have brought to the art world.

No need to travel far to see one of Claude Monet’s iconic water lilies. A 1908 painting, the first one from the series to be purchased by an art museum, is making its way to MAG as part of this must-see exhibition.
