About camps at the Creative Workshop
Every summer and during some school break weeks, we run full-day hands-on art-making camps for youth ages 5 – 15. These programs have fun themes that introduce art techniques and allow for exploration in art-making and creative problem-solving. We offer two types of camps: Art Day Camps and Clay Camps.
Art Day Camps
- Registration for Art Day Camps is now by the week (Monday through Friday). We are no longer able to process registrations for single days of camps.
- New this year! We are now offering three age groups for Art Day Camps:
- MINI:Ages 5–7
- JUNIOR: Ages 8–10
- SENIOR: Ages 11–13
- Art Day campers will explore drawing, painting and other mixed media (collage, printmaking, etc.) based on the theme of the week through hands-on projects using techniques introduced by our teaching -artist instructors and high-quality materials!
- Art Day camp gets messy! We use paint, markers, glue, charcoal, pastels and more throughout the week. It is recommended that campers wear clothing that can get messy. No open-toed shoes are allowed in CW studios.
Clay Camps
- Registration for Clay Camps is by the week. This ensures clay projects have time to be created, dried, fired to bisque, glazed or painted, and if glazed, fired again!
- We continue to offer two age groups for clay campers:
- JUNIOR: Ages 7–9
- SENIOR: Ages 10–15
- Clay Camp campers will explore the fundamentals of ceramics from slab to pinch and coil building, they will bring their ideas to life! SENIOR Clay campers will have at least one experience on the potter’s wheel. Students younger than 10 cannot work safely on the wheel
- Clay Camp gets messy! The clay used is red earthen-ware, which can stain clothing. It is recommended that campers wear clothing that can get messy. No open-toed shoes are allowed in the studio.
In all of our camps, our main goal is to strengthen your child’s art education through exploration and structured hands-on projects that help build confidence in their own creativity. We offer age groupings that allows campers to learn about art techniques, strategies and materials and make art they are proud of alongside their peers. Camps are taught by the Creative Workshop’s team of teaching-artists and teaching assistants who lead the camps in high-quality art projects, demonstrations and visits to the galleries to see original works of art in the MAG collection and exhibitions.
