StART with a Story with Special Guest Reader Jazmín Dreas

English Event Description

Make something new at the Memorial Art Gallery! Create art with the Creative Workshop, drop-in for Story Time, follow a guided tour with a Museum Educator, and browse books and toys with the Charlotte Whitney Allen Library.

Free for all ages; no museum ticket required.

Schedule of activities:

• 10:00 am–1:00 pm: Art-making projects for ages 3 and up. Last projects begin at 12:45 pm.
• 10:15 am–10:45 am: Story Time with special guest reader Jazmín Dreas.
• 11:00 am & 12:00 pm: Half-hour, family-friendly tours with a Museum Educator. Sign-up for tours upon arrival.

Registration to get a copy of Dos Two, written by Henry I. Padrón-Morales, closes on Thursday, September 17, at 10:00 am. Registration is not required to attend Story Time or other StART with a Story activities.

About Special Guest Reader Jazmín Dreas

Jazmín is a mother of two who loves reading stories and sharing her culture with everyone she meets. Born and raised on the beautiful island of the Dominican Republic, Jazmín came to Rochester through a scholarship program at the Rochester Institute of Technology. After putting her engineering career on hold to focus on raising her children, she began to frequent many local libraries and noticed a need; there was a lack of consistent Spanish story time programs for families in the community. Inspired to help fill that gap, she began leading Spanish story time at local libraries each month. Jazmín loves singing, playing the ukulele, and reading enthusiastically to children of all ages.

¡Crea algo nuevo en la Memorial Art Gallery! Haz arte en el Creative Workshop, participa en la hora del cuento, únete a una visita guiada con un educador del museo y explora libros y juguetes en la biblioteca Charlotte Whitney Allen.

Actividad gratuita para todas las edades; no se requiere entrada al museo.

Horarios de las diferentes actividades:

Sobre la Lectora Invitada Especial Jazmín Dreas

Jazmín Dreas es madre de dos hijos; le encanta leer cuentos y compartir su cultura con todas las personas que conoce. Nacida y criada en la hermosa isla de la República Dominicana, Jazmín llegó a Rochester gracias a un programa de becas en Rochester Institute of Technology. Tras poner en pausa su carrera en ingeniería para dedicarse a criar a sus hijos, comenzó a frecuentar muchas bibliotecas locales y notó una necesidad: existía una falta de programas regulares de horas de cuentos en español para las familias de la comunidad. Inspirada por el deseo de ayudar a cubrir esa carencia, comenzó a dirigir sesiones mensuales de horas de cuentos en español en las bibliotecas locales. A Jazmín le encanta cantar, tocar el ukelele y leer con entusiasmo a niños de todas las edades.
