Art Lover’s Tour: Santa Fe

Join us in Georgia O’Keeffe country and delve into the rich heritage of northern New Mexico on a journey that weaves together centuries-old craft traditions with the splendor of iconic sights.

Enjoy opportunities to engage directly with skilled local artisans, art curators, and gallery owners, whose insights reveal how ancestral knowledge, materials, and cultural values continue to shape living artistic traditions in the Southwest today. Visits to museums, Abiquiú, and Ghost Ranch situate artistic practice within the dramatic terrain that inspired generations of makers, painters, and writers. A visit to O’Keeffe’s studio reveals the deep connection between the artist and the creative vision she cultivated there for more than four decades. In Chimayo, examine the continuity of devotional art, weaving, and vernacular architecture rooted in centuries-old Hispano traditions. Throughout, enjoy Santa Fe’s cuisine defined by the use of heirloom ingredients and deeply rooted regional flavors that feel both ancient and inventive.

Tour Highlights

• Enjoy a tour of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum pairing iconic paintings with personal objects that illuminate her deep connection to the New Mexico landscape.
• Meet with gallery owner Andrea Fisher, a premier authority on New Mexico Pueblo pottery who maintains close relationships with artists.
• Go behind-the-scenes at the Museum of International Folk Art with Laura Addison, one of the world’s largest museums dedicated to folk art.
• Basketry was one of the first craft forms practiced by Indigenous communities and learn about the various styles at the Adobe Gallery.
• Be part of a curated visit to O’Keefe’s home at Abiquiú, and understand how the landscape inspired her with a visit to nearby Ghost Ranch.
• Visit Evoke Gallery and meet with director Katherine Erickson. Evoke emphasizes contemporary figurative painting and representational art.
• Visit the IAIA’s Museum of Contemporary Native Arts and be joined by Manuela Well Off Man, chief curator for a very special visit.
• Explore the Santuario de Chimayo, the second most important Catholic pilgrimage center in the United States.
• Accompanied by Patricia Trujillo-Oviedo learn about the weaving traditions of Chimayo. She is a seventh generation descendant of original local settlers.
• Throughout the program, enjoy Santa Fe’s cuisine and deeply rooted regional flavors that feel are both ancient and inventive. New Mexico blends Native American, Hispanic, and Anglo traditions in dishes that celebrate locally grown ingredients.

If it is necessary for the MAG Council to cancel an Art Lover’s Tour, all payments made will be refunded in full.
