Purchase Process
During your purchase, you’ll choose if you would like the membership to be sent directly to the gift recipient or to yourself. Please allow four weeks for delivery of gift membership packets.
Important to note: MAG is affiliated with the University of Rochester. As such, we are unable to process memberships without full first and last names and complete mailing addresses of the member. Providing only nick-names, abbreviated names, or using your own address for the gift recipient will cause delays in processing while we reach out to you to collect more complete information.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will my gift membership be emailed directly to the recipient?
MAG’s software cannot auto-email a gift recipient when a membership is purchased. Memberships begin instantly after purchase, but you will need to contact the gift recipient yourself if you would like them to know immediately that they will be receiving their membership in the mail.
How long can my gift message be?
MAG staff will hand write your gift message in the note-card. Please restrict your gift message to 1-2 sentences.
How long after I purchase a membership will it be received by mail?
Membership card processing takes up to four weeks. As MAG is part of the University of Rochester, all membership transactions must be processed at both MAG and the University before cards can be printed and mailed. Memberships begin instantly upon online or in-person purchase, however, and can be used without the presence of a membership card. Simply present a photo ID, and our guest services staff will take it from there.
Why did I receive two separate membership letters?
All membership dues are recognized as a donation by the University of Rochester, and a gift receipt will be sent directly to you from the University’s Gift and Donor Services office for your tax records. Membership cards are printed in-house and mailed by MAG staff.
Why can’t I use my own address for the gift recipient? I don’t know theirs.
MAG is affiliated with the University of Rochester. The University uses a variety of methods to confirm folks’ identities in order to avoid duplicate records and other mishaps in our databases. If you don’t know the gift recipient’s mailing address, you’ll need to obtain it from them before moving forward to avoid processing delays.
Why can’t I use a nick-name? This person doesn’t use their given name.

We are very sensitive to name preferences, though, so please provide the person’s preferred name as well so we can address them how they’d like.
