Crista Miller, organ
From the echoing basilicas of Rome to the vibrant missions of the Andes and to the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, New York, this program traces the astonishing journey of Italian musical ideals across the early modern world. Transcontinental Flight of the Italian Muse features music of Frescobaldi, Sweelinck, Böhm, Caterina Assandra, Hidalgo and Zipoli, revealing how a uniquely Italian brilliance shaped sacred soundscapes far beyond Europe. Crista Miller’s transcription of Fernández Hidalgo’s Magnificat completes the arc, bringing New World polyphony of the Americas into dialogue with its Old World origins.
On the third Thursday of each month, from October through May, the Eastman School of Music and the Memorial Art Gallery present varied concert programs by faculty and guest artists featuring Eastman’s Italian Baroque Organ. These Third Thursday Concerts are included with museum admission after 5:00 pm and are made possible by the Rippey Endowed Trust.
All concerts begin at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early, as seating is limited and available on a first-come basis.
