August 25–29, 2025
1 week, Monday–Friday

Taught by: Joan Nichols

Learn to paint loosely and expressively with beautiful, bright colors in this Beginner Modern Impressionist class. Joan will teach you a four-step process based on the French Impressionists from the late 1800s, using acrylic paints instead of oil paints. You will learn how to mix colors and understand the difference between transparent and opaque paint, along with the four-step process, which includes painting an under-painting with transparent paints, understanding what “re-establish the line” means, and how to add opaque paints and complete the piece. You will go from not knowing how to paint to painting simple landscapes and florals like the Impressionists, using a modern palette of acrylic paints.
