This course explores drawing and painting through the versatile medium of ink!
We will master the mechanics of ink and metal nib work, employing the correct materials, angle, pressures, and speed to master the fluidity of the line. We will address basic drawing principles: line, form, value tone, and texture, using contour, cross-hatching, stippling, and line variation used in Renaissance art through contemporary ink masters. Ink sessions will include reed, bamboo, and alternative mark-making tools, fluid ink brush painting, a method for setting up a five-tone ink wash palette, ink wash painting from observation, ink layering with negative space, drawing from the gallery and nature, ink-wash drawings after the old masters, watercolor/ink compatible techniques, and creative direction in a supportive environment.
