A ceramic sculpture of an organic shape on top of a table, painted like rusting iron
Madalyn Stuart, Isolation, 2015, painted ceramic

In 2015, Maddie graduated Cum Laude from Nazareth College with a BFA in Studio Art, with a Concentration in Ceramics. In her junior year, Maddie spent a semester abroad at the École Européenne Supérieure d’Art de Bretagne in Rennes, France. Based on that experience, she created a multimedia thesis presentation, “Interdimensionality,” that focused on the interaction between 2D and 3D art.  Not only was this time academically fulfilling, but provided an opportunity to backpack solo through Europe, soaking up as much art, architecture, and history as possible!

Maddie was the Lead Coordinator of the Nazareth Student Art Show, has volunteered at the Western New York Pottery Festival, and has exhibited her own work around Rochester including Flower City Arts Center’s College Clay Collective, the Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester’s Student Showcase, and Main Street Arts Center’s Small Works shows.

Previously, Maddie has refined her leadership abilities and honed her sculpting craft at a local bakery, working in nontraditional artistic media of fondant, buttercream, gum paste, and other sweet treats, all while managing a small team of bakers on a day to day basis. As a Rochester native who has always fostered an appreciation for art, and as a current student of the Creative Workshop, Maddie strives to learn and develop her artistic abilities. She is excited to be able to share her knowledge with her students taking ceramics classes with the MAG, as well as advance her skills as an educator.
