DESCRIPTION:September 11–25\, 2025\n3 weeks\, Thursdays \nTaught by: Jason Ferguson \nThis class will teach you the basics of Jason’s carving techniques and the concepts of design for flat tiles and vertical forms. Learn how to transfer your design from paper to clay tile or vessel and create relief. We will discuss techniques for carving for storytelling\, symbolism\, and how relief carving can convey your ideas. This is a subtractive technique class\, but we will also discuss how additive ideas can work with carving. Students are asked to be experienced with clay\, have a working knowledge of all the stages of clay\, and know the basics of drawing. \nMaterials\nStudents will need to purchase clay for their own use. Clay in different varieties is available at the Creative Workshop for $18.00 for a 25-lb bag. Glazes and firing are included in the price of the class. Please bring an old kitchen-size towel you don’t mind getting dirty with you. \nRegistration Information\nRegistration for this program starts on Monday\, June 16\, at 10:00 am for MAG Members\, and Monday\, June 23\, at 10:00 am for Not-Yet-Members. What was once part of the Berlin Wall is now the longest open-air gallery in the world spanning 1.3 kilometers of history and art. \nAccompanied by a Jewish art historian visit the Peter Eisenman designed Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe\, among several other memorials which are sites of remembrance for the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. \nVisit Potsdam\, the former Prussian royal seat featuring splendid gardens and glimmering palaces. Visit to Cecilienhof Palace where world history was written in the summer of 1945 at the end of WWII. After lunch at a local restaurant\, discover Schloss Sanssouci\, known as the Versailles of Germany. The organ is the centerpiece of an installation that highlights more than 30 major Baroque-period paintings and sculptures.

SUMMARY:2025 M&T Bank Clothesline Art Festival
DESCRIPTION:The M&T Bank Clothesline Art Festival has been MAG’s largest annual fundraiser and biggest celebration of the arts for almost 70 years. Over 300 artists from across the country offer their work for purchase at this juried\, two-day festival that takes place on the beautiful grounds of the Memorial Art Gallery. Clothesline is also the place to experience all-day live entertainment\, sample food from some of Rochester’s favorite food trucks and vendors\, enjoy free family art activities\, and visit the museum. \nThis year\, Clothesline Art Festival is back with more art\, more music\, more food\, and more fun for everyone! DESCRIPTION:Taught by: Kerina Mangiaracina \nFor returning students who are planning to be enrolled in the fall session. This open studio time will allow for continuing projects and individualized support from rotating instructors. Students can sign up for as few or as many open studio sessions as they would like. The price is per session. \nMaterials\nAll needed tools will be available to students during the class. Some material kits may be provided\, and any additional needed materials are available for purchase at the time of the class. \nRegistration Information\nRegistration for this program starts on Monday\, June 16\, at 10:00 am for MAG Members\, and Monday\, June 23\, at 10:00 am for Not-Yet-Members. Online registration ends on Sunday\, August 31\, at 9:30 am. \nPrograms with inadequate enrollment are cancelled one week before the first meeting. We will attempt to contact you via email to find an alternative program or to refund your registration fee.

DESCRIPTION:Going for Baroque is a weekly series of mini-recitals at the Memorial Art Gallery. It is offered each Sunday at 1:30 pm and again at 3:00 pm. It offers the opportunity for students from the Eastman School of Music to perform alongside professional musicians on the Italian Baroque organ on the second floor of the museum. The 25-minute mini-recital is included with museum admission. \nOwned by the Eastman School of Music\, the fully restored Italian Baroque organ is the only full-size antique Italian organ in North America. The organ is the centerpiece of an installation that highlights more than 30 major Baroque-period paintings and sculptures.
