SUMMARY:Third Thursday Concert: Transcontinental Flight of the Italian Muse
DESCRIPTION:Crista Miller\, organ \nFrom the echoing basilicas of Rome to the vibrant missions of the Andes and to the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester\, New York\, this program traces the astonishing journey of Italian musical ideals across the early modern world. Transcontinental Flight of the Italian Muse features music of Frescobaldi\, Sweelinck\, Böhm\, Caterina Assandra\, Hidalgo and Zipoli\, revealing how a uniquely Italian brilliance shaped sacred soundscapes far beyond Europe. Crista Miller’s transcription of Fernández Hidalgo’s Magnificat completes the arc\, bringing New World polyphony of the Americas into dialogue with its Old World origins. \nOn the third Thursday of each month\, from October through May\, the Eastman School of Music and the Memorial Art Gallery present varied concert programs by faculty and guest artists featuring Eastman’s Italian Baroque Organ. These Third Thursday Concerts are included with museum admission after 5:00 pm and are made possible by the Rippey Endowed Trust. \nAll concerts begin at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early\, as seating is limited and available on a first-come basis.

SUMMARY:Ink Drawing & Watercolor Painting (24W26)
DESCRIPTION:January 14–March 25\, 202610 weeks\, Wednesdays\, No Classes: February 18 \nTaught by: Brooks Girsch \nThis course explores India ink and the dynamic possibilities of combining ink dip-pen and brush techniques with watercolor. We will master the mechanics of ink and metal nib work\, gaining familiarity with the materials and essential methods to achieve fluidity of line\, line variation\, hatching\, texture\, and controlled mark-making. We will integrate transparent watercolor washes to build depth and color harmony\, drawing on approaches found across the lineage of medieval and Renaissance drawings up through contemporary art and illustration. Students will also experiment with reed\, bamboo\, and other alternative mark-making tools\, in addition to a range of wet media ink techniques\, including fluid ink brush painting and tonal washes\, and experience the differing behaviors of watercolor versus colored inks. Find creative direction through demonstrations\, guided exercises\, and free exploration in a supportive environment. Suitable for all levels of ink and watercolor experience; some foundation in basic drawing techniques preferred. \nMaterials\nStudents need to purchase materials for this class. \nSee the materials lists for further information. \nRegistration Information\nRegistration for this program starts on Monday\, December 8\, at 10:00 am for MAG Members\, and Monday\, December 15\, at 10:00 am for Not-Yet-Members. SUMMARY:Make a Connection!
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to spark something new — whether it’s a friendship\, a flirtation\, or just a fun night out. Join us for Make a Connection!\, an evening inspired by the exhibition Frontiers of Impressionism: Paintings from the Worcester Art Museum. \nJust like the exhibition\, which pairs artworks across periods\, cultures\, and mediums to invite fresh conversations\, this event brings people together to discover unexpected common ground. Want to show off a friend or yourself? Promote yourself or your friends in a positive light with a 2-3 minute slideshow highlighting best features! \nDon’t have someone to present for you? Don’t worry—submit a slideshow and we’ll present it for you. \n\nYou must sign up in advance to reserve a spot as space is limited. Fill out our online form by Wednesday\, January 7\, at 5:00 pm.\nKeep it fun\, friendly\, and positive.\nFeel free to include images\, but make sure that they are appropriate (we have nudes in the museum – we don’t need to see yours).\nKeep it short and sweet—see an example presentation!\n\n\nFor questions about this event\, please contact MAG Marketing & Engagement at jgasbarre@mag.rochester.edu. Registration ends on Friday\, January 9\, at 6:00 pm.
