DESCRIPTION:Did you know that Impressionism was considered radical and ridiculed by critics? Let’s explore together the artistic movement that changed the course of art history! We’ll view the exhibition Frontiers of Impressionism: Paintings from the Worcester Art Museum and use Artful Thinking Routines to discuss the lasting changes these progressive artists brought to the art world through their individual perceptions of reality. This workshop will also include a creative activity guided by a Teaching Artist. \nParticipants will earn 2.5 CTLE credit hours upon completion. Light refreshments provided. DESCRIPTION:January 14–March 25\, 202610 weeks\, Wednesdays\, No Classes: February 18 \nTaught by: Brooks Girsch \nThis course explores India ink and the dynamic possibilities of combining ink dip-pen and brush techniques with watercolor. We will master the mechanics of ink and metal nib work\, gaining familiarity with the materials and essential methods to achieve fluidity of line\, line variation\, hatching\, texture\, and controlled mark-making. We will integrate transparent watercolor washes to build depth and color harmony\, drawing on approaches found across the lineage of medieval and Renaissance drawings up through contemporary art and illustration. Students will also experiment with reed\, bamboo\, and other alternative mark-making tools\, in addition to a range of wet media ink techniques\, including fluid ink brush painting and tonal washes\, and experience the differing behaviors of watercolor versus colored inks. DESCRIPTION:Taught by: Joan Nichols \nJoin Joan Nichols\, Creative Workshop Instructor\, for a guided tour of the Frontiers of Impressionism exhibition and a hands-on workshop exploring Impressionist painting techniques. All materials will be included in the cost of the program. Museum admission included. Program support provided by The Robert Lehman Foundation. \nMaterials\nAll materials provided. \nRegistration Information\nRegistration for this program starts on Monday\, November 3\, at 10:00 am for MAG Members\, and Monday\, November 3\, at 10:00 am for Not-Yet-Members. Online registration ends on Friday\, January 9\, at 1:30 pm. \nPrograms with inadequate enrollment are cancelled one week before the first meeting.
