Joan will teach you a four-step process based on the French Impressionists from the late 1800s\, using acrylic paints instead of oil paints. DESCRIPTION:September 11–25\, 2025\n3 weeks\, Thursdays \nTaught by: Jason Ferguson \nThis class will teach you the basics of Jason’s carving techniques and the concepts of design for flat tiles and vertical forms. Learn how to transfer your design from paper to clay tile or vessel and create relief. We will discuss techniques for carving for storytelling\, symbolism\, and how relief carving can convey your ideas. This is a subtractive technique class\, but we will also discuss how additive ideas can work with carving. Students are asked to be experienced with clay\, have a working knowledge of all the stages of clay\, and know the basics of drawing. \nMaterials\nStudents will need to purchase clay for their own use. Clay in different varieties is available at the Creative Workshop for $18.00 for a 25-lb bag. Glazes and firing are included in the price of the class.
