We will master the mechanics of ink and metal nib work\, gaining familiarity with the materials and essential methods to achieve fluidity of line\, line variation\, hatching\, texture\, and controlled mark-making. We will integrate transparent watercolor washes to build depth and color harmony\, drawing on approaches found across the lineage of medieval and Renaissance drawings up through contemporary art and illustration. Students will also experiment with reed\, bamboo\, and other alternative mark-making tools\, in addition to a range of wet media ink techniques\, including fluid ink brush painting and tonal washes\, and experience the differing behaviors of watercolor versus colored inks. This interactive class is designed to appeal to anyone seeking experience in hand-building\, throwing on the wheel\, and glazing their finished work. Students have the opportunity to work independently or with the help of the instructor\, who offers support in the form of group demonstrations and individualized instruction. Great for beginners or as a refresher for students with past experience. \nMaterials\nNEW: Included in the cost of class is one 25-pound bag of clay of the student’s choice that will be provided to students on the first day of class\, or available for pick-up when needed . Glazes and firing are also included in the class price.
