Archives

The Gallery’s archival material may be accessed by scholars by arrangement via the Charlotte Whitney Allen Library. Selected material is being digitized, and can be accessed at the New York Heritage website. The collections of the Archives include:

• Exhibition catalogues and files
• Gallery publications and annual reports
• Board of Managers minutes
• Correspondence files from the various departments of the Gallery
• Scrapbooks
• Posters
• Photographic material
• Audio and video tapes
• Oral histories
• Fritz Trautmann notebooks

Indexes to archival collections are made available to researchers in the Charlotte Whitney Allen Library:

• File-list to the correspondence files in the Archives
• Index to artists who exhibited at the Gallery from the Gallery’s opening in 1913 to the present
• Artist index to the Gallery’s publications

Due to the Gallery’s central role in the arts in Rochester, the Archives collection also includes information on many local artists and arts organizations including the:

• Print Club of Rochester
• Arena Group
• Rochester International Salon of Photography
