If you’re a New York state artist looking to exhibit and sell your work, consider Rochester’s largest and longest-running fine art and crafts festival. Now in its 61st year, Clothesline showcases original work by 375+ artists from across New York State, continuous live entertainment, food from favorite area vendors, and family art activities.

Looking for postcards with a map to your booth at this year’s M&T Bank Clothesline Festival? Stop by the Events Office at MAG or give us a call and we will mail some out to you. 585.276.8950.

Thanks to M&T Bank, presenting sponsor of the Festival for the 23rd straight year!

Why is it called the “Clothesline Festival”?

In 1956, the first Clothesline Festival really did have artwork and paintings hung from clotheslines. At that time, there were just a handful of local artists, but the camaraderie of the Festival is legendary. See a video from 2012

Today, this Rochester institution continues to grow and evolve and has become MAG’s largest fundraiser. It’s now the place to experience all-day live entertainment, sample food from some of Rochester’s favorite vendors, enjoy free family art activities, visit the museum (included in Clothesline admission(!) a $15 value), and of course, browse and buy original work by 375+ New York state artists throughout the grounds. 2017 artist list

Each year sees the addition of more festivals, but Clothesline remains a favorite with visitors and artists alike. In recent years, it has earned five “Best of Rochester” awards from City Newspaper readers. And because the Gallery charges admission and screens the work of the exhibitors, serious shoppers are more in evidence than at other festivals.
