SUMMARY:Harold Taddy\, Theatre Artist: An Invitation to Immersive Experience
DESCRIPTION:Harold Taddy is the Artistic Director of the avant-garde physical theater troupe The Velvet Noose and designer of the Memorial Art Gallery’s Mindful MAGiC wellness series. \nHis work operates at the threshold where deep meditation dissolves into visceral\, cathartic release. At first glance\, the serene stillness of a sound bath or yoga practice and the raw\, emotionally provocative intensity of his troupe appear to exist on separate planes. Yet\, in Taddy’s creative philosophy\, they share a profound core purpose. This talk will demonstrate how both serve as immersive experiences designed to bypass the analytical mind. Whether guiding an audience to ease through resonant vibrations or exploring the full scope of experience through physical storytelling\, his work inspires complete presence—inviting participants to confront\, feel\, and ultimately liberate their held emotions. \nAs a bridge between these worlds\, Taddy is behind the celebrated Mindful MAGiC wellness series at the Memorial Art Gallery. Here\, he weaves together transformative yoga sessions\, guided meditations\, and restorative sound baths\, utilizing live sonic frequencies to transform a public art space into a sanctuary for collective healing and artistic awakening. \n10:30 am: Check-in and Coffee/Meet & Greet\n11:00 am: Program in auditorium \n\nTo submit a request for ASL interpretation\, please email access@mag.rochester.edu at least two weeks before the event. \nTicket sales end on Thursday\, October 22\, at 12:00 pm. Ticket includes museum admission. \nFor questions about this event\, please email magcouncil@mag.rochester.edu.

SUMMARY:Art Start: Woodblock Printing (10AF26)
DESCRIPTION:Join the waitlist\nTaught by: Ashley Rehler \nWoodblock carving is one of the oldest forms of printmaking\, a relief method in which wood is carved away to create an image. In this class\, you will watch demonstrations of each step: creating an image\, transferring the image to a woodblock\, carving\, and hand-printing. Students then create their own woodblock\, carve it out\, and produce prints worthy of framing! No experience necessary; beginners and intermediates welcome. \nPlease note: All class supplies are provided. Prior to arrival\, we recommend that students consider a handful of ideas for their woodblock and print out a copy of the chosen image. Ideal imagery has bold shapes or lines to make carving easier. Woodblock dimensions are approximately 6×6 inches. Students will have about an hour and a half to carve their images. \nMaterials\nAll materials provided. \nRegistration Information\nRegistration for this program starts on Tuesday\, August 18\, at 10:00 am for MAG Members\, and Tuesday\, August 25\, at 10:00 am for Not-Yet-Members.
