Rose Van Tyne looks over the shoulder of two young students in class

Rose VanTyne, who started as an adult student at the Creative Workshop, has been teaching here since 2008 and started as the Ceramic Technician in 2021. She is responsible for the smooth operation and maintenance of the ceramic studio. She makes sure that the studio is supplied with materials from clay to glazes, coordinates the work flow of the studio with timely firings, loading and unloading student’s work from the kilns, and oversees the upkeep of the kilns, wheels and other equipment.  Additionally, she supports and collaborates with the other instructors and teaches both youth and adult clay classes.

A Rochester, New York native, Rose earned her BS in elementary education, SUNY Brockport and MS in art education, Nazareth College. After graduation in 2006 Rose worked as a substitute art teacher in school districts across Monroe county working with students from kindergarten to twelfth grade. In 2015, Rose was approached to teach in a new program, coupled with RCSD school # 23; ELC Expanded Learning Collaboration. She connected the curriculum by making connections to art through clay. Later, she would expand these connections with 3D art using multimedia.

Rose encourages the exploration of clay, and other media to express individual thoughts and ideas while building art vocabulary and skill. Rose also enjoys spending quality time in her ceramic studio where she continues to develop her craft.
