In Memoriam: Fred Lipp

Fred Lipp

Fritz “Fred” Lipp, a longtime instructor at the Creative Workshop, died June 7, 2015 after a short illness.

From September 1972 to April 2015, Fred taught Advanced Painting (and sometimes Sculpture) at the Workshop. He also taught at RIT and at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in Utica. He is remembered and honored for his always honest, rigorously visual and perceptive critiques; his “grey paper” edits; and his belief that we all have an innate color and design sense.

Fred will be remembered at a special exhibition that opens October 15 in the Workshop’s Lucy Burne Gallery. On Thursday, October 29, from 5 to 8 pm, friends and former students are invited to share memories at a public reception.
