Just past the Auditorium Corridor, Sophia Josephine Dixon has been reunited with her parents, Hiram and Angeline. The family, who lived in the Hudson River Valley, are thought to have been painted by Jefferson Gauntt in the mid-1800s. Little Josephine’s portrait with her pet goldfinch has long been a favorite of MAG visitors, but Hiram and Angeline are newly on view after treatment under a Henry Luce Foundation conservation grant. All three were the gift of Josephine’s daughter, Mrs. George Penny.
