August 2011: Episodes from an Unwritten History

Assistant curator Jessica Marten leads a walkthrough of the exhibition.

A fascinating new exhibition organized by MAG examines the previously unexplored relationship between Rochester artists, visionaries and lifelong friends Claude Bragdon (1866–1946) and Fritz Trautmann (1882–1971).

An influential architect, author and theater designer, Bragdon was the subject of a recent exhibition at the University of Rochester and a book published by the Rochester Institute of Technology. But Trautmann is equally well known at MAG, where he taught his unique color theory to generations of students at the Creative Workshop.

Episodes from an Unwritten History
brings together 15 original works by the artists, memorabilia, and unpublished letters and writings. It’s on view through December 12. Read the press release
