Through association with the Memorial Art Gallery, Averell Council members will have the opportunity to invent, plan, sponsor, or just enjoy unique art-oriented events. Best of all, ideas for the events come from the members, and member volunteers make those ideas happen.

Mission

Our mission is to support the Memorial Art Gallery. To retain, expand and diversify our membership; increase awareness of the institution and the collection; raise operational funds; and offer cultural events for both social and educational outreach.

There are a multitude of ways to get involved with the Averell Council. Here are 5:

Averell on Art (Educational Programming)

Learn and help others learn about art. Develop art and education programs such as informal talks featuring nationally renowned artists, critics and collectors, in cooperation with the Education Department at MAG as well as other Averell committees. Join us and help to execute programs and events that can engage a wide and diverse audience, including kids and their parents.

3rd Thursday

Keep us hopping. Develop new, fresh and different events for the 3rd Thursday evenings at MAG. 3rd Thursdays run from 5 to 8 pm and our goal is to appeal to a broad range of Averell Council members and the Rochester community. Help us create a happy hour with some cool or interesting ‘something’ once a month.

Gala Committee

Develop and execute an annual Halloween Gala for the Council, beginning with 2014.

Membership Committee

Keep us growing. Help develop ideas to attract new Averell Council members, and keep current members happy and involved with the Gallery. We want to advance our Averell community by building a council that people want to be a part of. Interesting, interested and innovative.

Marketing Committee

Writers, Graphic Designers, PR, Editors, Poets, Photographers, WE NEED YOU! Market and build support and promotion of programs and events with the Averell Council. Working with the MAG Marketing Department, the goal will be to produce a free quarterly publication about arts (all arts) in Rochester. We also are looking for assistance developing and maintaining our online presence.

Meet new friends and join us at whatever level you choose. Attend and enjoy, give a few hours of your time, or become an active volunteer.
