Protecting the Body

Ancient Egyptians believed that death was not the end of life, but the end of one journey and the beginning of another. To begin the journey to the afterlife, the deceased’s body had to be preserved through a process called mummification. The sacred rituals of mummification and preparation of the body for burial, and the protective qualities of gods and goddesses, helped the deceased be reborn for eternity.
