Paul Allen Taylor
New at the Workshop! Paul Allen Taylor is a well-respected and knowledgeable artist and teacher who shows his fresh and loose landscape watercolors at a variety of art festivals. A longtime visitor and part-time resident of the Thousand Islands, he often focuses his work on the St. Lawrence Seaway, its surrounding and “surrounded” landscape as well as life on the river, past and present.
By mixing colors on the paper and allowing them to mingle, Paul maintains clean bold colors that accentuate the simple basic elements in his designs—namely shape, texture, line and color. Good drawing is the foundation of a good painting and he brings this foundation to his classes.
Always searching for the ideal scene to paint, Paul sometimes doesn’t have to go far. He has passed that barn just down the road many times before, but one thing about it may stir his creativity on a given day. Other popular images come from Cape Cod, the Adirondacks, and his new location for nautical themes, the Chesapeake Bay. Often he will combine his own ideas using photos and sketches done on location.
