Mimi Smith has taught weaving across the area for more than 20 years, including at Rochester Museum & Science Center and the Weavers’ Guild. She has participated in seminars nationally and given workshops in Vancouver, St. Louis, Orlando, Cincinnati and Minneapolis. She learned to weave at the Creative Workshop when, for a brief time, the Weavers’ Guild was conducting adult classes.

Mimi enjoys experimenting with different weave structures and pushing the traditional techniques to new levels by exploring new designs, colors and textures. Weaving has opened new paths for her to other fiber fields such as dyeing and felting.

Mimi is a talented artist and a patient and persistent teacher. She finds teaching to be an exciting and challenging field—exciting to watch students expand and blossom in their new knowledge and challenging in encouraging those who experience difficulties to find new ways to reach the final result.
