Q: At some shows, volunteer boothsitters are available so that artists working alone can take breaks. Why don’t you offer this service?
A: With a festival as large as Clothesline, it's just not possible. The Gallery's small staff is dedicated to such critical areas as entry gates and food tents, and there are just not enough of us to cover artists booths.

Q: Why can’t there be a bathroom designated “Exhibitors Only”?
A: We do designate one portajohn at each end of the campus as “Exhibitors Only.”  We would love to provide an indoor option, but with 10,000+ visitors each day, we don’t have the facilities to do this.

Q: Why can’t we set up before 6 pm Friday night?
A: You can, but only if your location is on grass and setting up will not impede traffic. Friday is a regular business day at the Gallery; the museum is open until 5 pm, and staff are often in the building until 6 pm.

Q: Why aren’t awards given out by categories such as ceramics, painting, photography and jewelry? And how come I never see a judge?
A: Clothesline Merit Awards recognize original, creative work, artfully displayed--in all media. Our judges recognize artists that they feel are outstanding, no matter what the category. And just because you don't notice our judges doesn't mean they haven't been in your area. A discreet visit without social contact helps ensure a totally objective decision.

Q: Where can I get change for my booth?
A: Unfortunately, the Gallery cannot make change for exhibitors, and the nearest banks are several blocks away. Please bring enough change to carry you through each business day.

Q: Is there parking for exhibitors?
A: Space on the grounds is very limited. Space for vehicles is even more limited. After setup, exhibitors may park in designated artist parking on our grounds, but only while spaces last. Once this lot is full, exhibitors may park in the many pay lots around the neighborhood, or park at Genesee Hospital Garage or East End Garage and ride our free shuttle.

Q: Why do you reserve such a large lot for handicapped parking?
A: Believe it or not, this lot really does fill with handicapped visitors and artists, and during peak hours we sometimes have to turn people away. For this reason, we can only allows cars with official handicapped designation.

Q: Why do I need to register my vehicle?
Registration lets us know what vehicles belong to our exhibitors. This helps us to be sure that those who have the need to be on the grounds unloading and setting up are able to do so, and helps us locate you in case of problems.
