Poet John Ashbery is no stranger to Rochester, where he grew up, or to
the Memorial Art Gallery, where as a young boy he took art classes. At this special event Ashbery—winner of the Pulitzer Prize, National Book Award and National Book Critics Circle Award—speaks on his life and work. Joining him on stage will be poet, critic and UR professor of English James Longenbach. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition John Ashbery and Friends: Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror, tonight's program is free to members of MAG and Writers & Books; included in Gallery admission for all others. Followed by a reception.
This lecture is offered in collaboration with Writers & Books and supported by the Dr. Robert Lewis Berg and Florence Foster Berg Memorial Fund.
