People

MAGazine has gone digital! The Gallery's annual member magazine is now Around the MAG, with headlines and features that change each month. Don't look for us in your mailbox, but do visit this site often. (If you're a MAG member, you'll still receive ARTiculate, our bimonthly calendar, by US mail.)

Meet the Goodmans

Some of the people attending Pete Brown's September 17 talk on British artist Walter Goodman had more than a passing interest in the artist. The sellout crowd included several of Goodman's direct descendants. Pictured (from left) are Brown, great-granddaughter Julia Goodman, grandson Ray Goodman, great-great-great granddaughter Jazmine Leigh, great-great-grandson David Leigh and great-great-granddaughter Olivia Leigh. More about the artist

Brown curated the exhibition (and wrote the catalog for) Walter Goodman's The Printseller's Window: Solving a Painter's Puzzle. The show was on view August 14–November 15.

Familiar Faces

Twelve exhibitors received awards at this year's M&T Bank Clothesline Festival, held under mostly sunny skies on September 12 and 13. They were chosen from 370 regional artists from across New York state.

Among the winners were two artists with Gallery connections. Jewelry artist Danielle Zatkowsky of Rochester, at her first Clothesline, was one of two winners of the first annual People’s Choice Awards, voted by Festival visitors. A graduate of Alfred University with a master’s from Rhode Island School of Design, Zatkowsky is the granddaughter of long-time Gallery docent Audrey Gordon, who sadly passed away on September 5.

Another familiar face, Creative Workshop faculty member Phyllis Bryce Ely, was one of ten Merit Award winners honored for outstanding creativity and quality of execution.
