Celebrating Black History

On Sunday, February 15, more than 1,400 visitors of all ages enjoyed free art activities and entertainment at the Gallery's annual Black History Month Family Day. The schedule included storyteller Miss Sweet Potato Pie (above left); performances by jazz musician Jimmie Highsmith Jr. and Sojourner House’s Dreamseeds; "Hatshepsut: She Wears the Beard, She Says I’m King" (below left), presented by Kuumba Consultants; a presentation on medieval Africa by Baobab Cultural Center; and a talk by assistant curator Sydney Greaves on the Gallery's Harriett Tubman sculpture.

Black History Month Family Day was sponsored by the Greater Rochester Health Foundation, Marie C. & Joseph C. Wilson Foundation, JPMorgan Chase Foundation, and Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, a Johnson & Johnson company.
