As Rochester’s art museum, the Memorial Art Gallery has a special role to play in our community, and it is a role that has been energized since 1913 by the love, passion, and commitment of generations of people.

Today I am especially grateful for MAG’s committed Board of Managers and volunteers, our dedicated staff, and the artists whose outstanding work we are delighted to share and proud to steward. And I am grateful for you, our many guests and generous friends, without whom we could not advance our mission to connect people, inspire fun, and ignite discovery through art.

This pandemic has brought to our country and to the world we share enormous challenges which must necessarily be the primary focus of our concern: healing those who are infected by this virus, stopping its spread, and protecting our healthcare workers and first responders.

That being said, the importance of life cannot be separated from the effort to understand its meaning and appreciate its value. As we take care of ourselves, our friends, neighbors, and loved ones, I think it is worth remembering how art fuels compassion and enriches lives. Now more than ever all of us at MAG are grateful for you, our members, for your ongoing support and for believing in MAG’s effort, and art’s ability, to make a difference to each of us individually, and to the community we are all a part of.

MAG will be open to the public again. You, our dear friends, will be the first to learn of this good news when the time is right. In the meantime, I invite you to stay connected and to join us on social media, and I kindly ask you to please take good care.

With warmest regards,

Jonathan P. Binstock, Ph.D.
Mary W. and Donald R. Clark Director
